Beginning his career as a switch-mode power supply designer, then moving into a Field Application Engineer (FAE) role, Zhang shifted his focus to product development and definition in 2013. For Zhang, product definition and R&D are two sides of the same coin. Since joining GaNext in 2021, he’s worked hand-in-hand with the R&D team to ensure every product strikes the right balance between market demand, technical excellence, and commercial competitiveness. GaNext’s core lineup includes its flagship GaNFusion Power ICs, speed-controllable GaN switches, and bidirectional GaN FETs — all engineered with innovation at their core.
Take the GaNFusion GN771x series for example: it features lossless current sensing technology, eliminating the inefficiencies of traditional sampling resistors and dramatically boosting system performance. Zhang highlights how smart optimization of turn-on/turn-off speeds in flyback circuits not only eases voltage stress on the secondary side but also improves EMI performance — a critical advantage in today’s compact, high-frequency designs. “Balancing high efficiency and EMI control in power systems isn’t easy, but the GaNFusion series nails both,” Zhang notes with confidence.
With expertise spanning both technology and market strategy, Zhang quickly recognized that in a fiercely competitive industry, intellectual property is more than a legal shield — it’s a strategic weapon. Under his leadership, GaNext has established a powerful patent portfolio, filing close to 100 patents to secure its technological edge.
Throughout the patent development process, Zhang’s team conducted meticulous analyses of circuit functionality and rigorously validated technical combinations, ensuring every innovation was thoroughly protected. This approach not only safeguards GaNext’s core technologies but also creates strong barriers to entry, making it difficult for competitors to bypass or replicate their proprietary solutions.
Since its establishment in 2020, GaNext has rapidly built a versatile product lineup — from PD fast-charging adapters and PC power supplies to automotive bidirectional DC-DC converters, LED drivers, and battery formation systems. Collaborations with industry giants like Lenovo and DJI have further reinforced its reputation across both consumer electronics and industrial sectors.
Looking ahead, Zhang underscores a clear dual-track strategy: pushing the boundaries of cutting-edge GaN technology while scaling accessible, cost-effective solutions for the mass market. “Breakthrough innovations set our technical ceiling, but competitive pricing secures market presence,” he notes. While GaNext’s GaN devices already rank among the industry's elite, Zhang believes that constant interaction with end markets and sharp customer insight will be key to sustaining long-term leadership and innovation momentum.
Effective branding has become a vital pillar of GaNext’s growth strategy. Zhang actively harnesses industry exhibitions, technical seminars, and face-to-face client interactions to spotlight the company’s technological strengths and product advantages. Twenty-two years ago, Zhang left his hometown in a modest village in Chongqing’s Wanzhou District and traveled over 1,000 kilometers to Beijing. That bold move was more than just a change in scenery — it marked the beginning of a life-defining chapter, setting him on a path toward innovation and leadership in the global semiconductor arena.
