Born in 1987 in Huangshan, Anhui, Dr. Zhu reflects:
“The year I was born, Huizhou was renamed Huangshan City. Tang Xianzu once wrote, ‘In all my life’s dreams, I never reached Huizhou.’ The natural and cultural richness of my hometown has always shaped me, but it is the legendary Huizhou merchants — bold, resourceful, and global — who inspire me to keep moving forward with courage and determination.”

Zhu’s journey began with a relentless pursuit of knowledge. He earned admission to Tsinghua University, where he studied automation, and later received a direct-entry PhD in Engineering Leadership & Innovation — a rare recognition of his academic and entrepreneurial potential. Graduating in 2009 at just 22, he joined a central state-owned enterprise and soon moved to Shenzhen in 2010 to help establish a joint venture. There, he advanced from electronics engineer to operations director, gaining both technical expertise and executive-level management skills that became the foundation of his entrepreneurial path.

In 2013, after his company’s restructuring, Zhu took the bold step of starting his own business. Looking back, he reflects:

“My early career opened the door to entrepreneurship, but it wasn’t something I carefully planned — it unfolded naturally. Being a PhD entrepreneur isn’t extraordinary; real success still comes down to persistence and hard work. Knowledge and networks are important, but overthinking can be paralyzing. Entrepreneurship is more than a nine-lives challenge — there is no way back, so you must endure and push forward.”

His advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is candid and hard-earned:

• If you’re not ready, don’t start; even if you are, think twice.

• Don’t pursue it for money alone — wealth without values is unsustainable.

• For tech entrepreneurs, mastering sales, management, and finance is just as vital as mastering technology.

Zhu’s WeChat name, “Tianyi” (Heaven’s Will), captures his life philosophy: “Adapt to circumstances, give your best, and accept outcomes with peace of mind. Work with joy, create real value, but don’t be attached to short-term results. True success may not belong to me alone, but I will always be part of creating it.”

When speaking about running Coolingstyle, Zhu emphasizes the importance of open dialogue: “I love exchanging ideas on technology and management with peers. There are always people ahead of you, and learning from them is invaluable.”
