Stronger Device Protection in a Tiny Package: Slkor SLPESD12VL1BA (SOD-323) ESD Diode

Compact package saves board space and lowers system cost, while ultra-low capacitance helps maintain signal integrity even at higher data rates.

Slkor introduces the SLPESD12VL1BA series electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection diode, featuring a compact SOD-323 package and engineered to deliver efficient transient overvoltage protection for space-constrained designs. The device is well suited for mobile device interfaces, communication system signal lines, and computer hardware applications, including smartphones and accessories, microprocessor-based equipment, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), notebooks, desktops, servers, portable instrumentation, networking and telecom equipment, serial and parallel ports, and various peripherals. It is especially ideal for consumer electronics and communication products that demand both high protection reliability and compact integration.

From mobile terminal interface protection to communication system signal links, the SLPESD12VL1BA effectively guards against electrostatic discharge (ESD), Cable Discharge Events (CDE), and electrical fast transients (EFT), creating a stable and reliable shield for sensitive circuits across a wide range of applications.

In terms of protection capability, the diode meets rigorous international standards. It complies with IEC 61000–4–2 (ESD), supporting ±15 kV air discharge and ±8 kV contact discharge, enabling it to withstand high-voltage shocks generated by human static electricity or equipment friction during everyday operation. Under IEC 61000–4–4 (EFT) testing, it tolerates 40 A (5/50 ns) electrical fast transients and delivers peak pulse power of 350 W (8/20 μs waveform), forming a robust protection barrier for sensitive components on power, data, and transmission lines.

Electrically, the device offers strong and balanced performance. With a reverse working voltage (V_RWM) of 12 V, it fits the low-voltage requirements of most electronic systems. The minimum reverse breakdown voltage (V_BR) reaches 13.3 V (at 1 mA), ensuring the device remains in a high-impedance state during normal operation without interfering with circuit functionality. The maximum clamping voltage (V_C) is only 19 V at 1 A and 32 V at 11 A, quickly limiting overvoltage to safe levels and protecting downstream ICs. Additionally, the maximum reverse leakage current (I_R) is just 1 μA, supporting ultra-low power consumption for battery-powered devices. With junction capacitance (C_J) up to 75 pF, signal integrity is preserved, making it suitable for high-speed data interfaces and communication links.

The SLPESD12VL1BA adopts a compact SOD-323 package, measuring approximately 1.4 mm × 1.8 mm, ideal for miniaturized designs with limited PCB space. The package uses halogen-free materials, complies with environmental requirements, and features a UL 94V-0 flammability rating. It supports high-temperature soldering at 260 °C for 10 seconds. The 7-inch tape-and-reel format (3,000 units per reel) enables efficient automated assembly, while Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) 1 ensures flexible storage and handling.

A representative from Slkor’s protection device product line stated: “The launch of SLPESD12VL1BA addresses the growing complexity of electromagnetic environments and the ongoing miniaturization of electronic devices. With ±15 kV ESD protection, a 12 V operating window, and a compact package, it delivers efficient protection while meeting engineers’ demands for circuit integration and signal integrity. This reflects Slkor’s continued technical advancement in ESD protection solutions. We will keep expanding our portfolio to provide more application-specific protection devices for global customers.”
